Shuffleboard Courts in action

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We are into our final two weeks of our 2024 shuffleboard season. It has been a great success thanks to our Board members and many volunteers. The only improvement we need is to increase our total number of members. I want you all to talk up GESA over the winter in preparation for 2025. If each of us brought in just one new member we would double our membership. We have negotiated with The Ottewell Curling Club for the 2025 season and there will only be minor changes to our operation with them. Thank you to Rick Kravonka and Dennis Frandsen for meeting with our Board last week. This coming week we can shuffle five days! Monday at 10:00 am we will host our first ever Horse Collar tournament. This is a fun four game event and we have five teams of 3 competing for the small cash prizes. If this is a success, we will make it bigger and better for next year. Then, regular shuffle will go Tuesday to Thursday at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm. The final evening session will be this Thursday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm. The Club Championship will be played on Friday, August 23rd at 10:00 am. The following week will have regular play Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 am and 12:30 pm, and one game only on Thursday at 10:00 am. Our Annual General Meeting will kick off at Noon on Thursday, August 29th. Everyone is welcome to join in, however only full members will be able to vote on any motion. Your Board consists of seven members with four current members who will let their names stand for the 2025 season. Please consider volunteering yourself or prepare to nominate someone to fill the three open positions. Of course the season isn’t complete until we have all of our equipment removed and stored for the winter. We will need volunteers to assist with this, so be prepared for a call from Charlie Cull to help out. Perhaps you will consider doing some ice curling this winter. To go curling, call 780-469-8404 or email ottewellcc@shaw.ca. Thank you to each of you for a great season! Wally
